Police believe driver had ‘a medical event’ that led to crash

A man has died following a single-vehicle collision in Hamilton on Monday, the Ontario Provincial Police say.

The collision happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Highway 403, near the Aberdeen Avenue ramp, police say.

According to Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, spokesperson for the OPP’s highway safety division, the driver was alone in the vehicle, and police “believe it was a medical event.”

The man died at the scene of the crash.

Westbound lanes of Highway 403 were closed for several hours to allow for the investigation, but they have since reopened.
